No, not a sunset over Mt Kilimanjaro as usually viewed from my home in East Africa ... but rather a beautiful sunset over the beach near my parent's home in South Africa ....Sorry I haven't posted on the blog today as usual ..... it's just been one of *those* days ! I've been out & about and have lots to post about soon though .... photo's too ... and even a recipe or so ! (Think light fluffy cupcakes smothered in a chocolaty, buttery topping !) Am also behind in publishing & responding to blog comments .... anyway, thank goodness for the clever Blogger people who let us publish via email, which is what I'm doing now to save time ....
Have had news from the farm. Via my husband, in the middle of nowhere (on a very patchy mobile connection) from Justin. That all is well there. Except for Maxie (who has an eye infection, thankfully treated by my vet friend E. in my absence as she has been staying at our farm Guest House with clients) and Emily (who - despite being well fed - has been catching & eating chickens in the village and has a price on her head - E. has been trying to catch her unsuccessfully for the past few days & my message back to Justin via hubby is that if any of the villagers DARE DARE lay a hand on her or hurt her I will get the police involved on my return !)
(For all the lovely new readers and followers out there who may not know, Justin is my 'right hand man' who takes care of my home and animals & who I just couldn't live without as he is such a super star in so many respects, Maxie is one of my dog's and Emily is a wild stray grey cat who I have managed to tame & care for over the years).
I've been upset about some disappointing news I've had this week, too ......... I suffer from (genetically) dangerously high cholesterol which is not diet related (and did I ever mention that I also have an hereditary heart condition ? Which means I have to be extra careful with watching my 'heart health' *sigh*) ... had to stop taking my medication when pregnant and have been a little *angel* with my low fat diet, exercising daily etc etc and was re tested last week .... hoping against all odds that somehow it was under control without medication ... and of course it's not. It is, infact, worse (higher) than ever before and I am just spitting mad about it.
Of course, I know it is not diet related (& the Dr says if I didn't lead such a healthy lifestyle it would be much worse) but I just think "What's the point ?!" I am still exclusively breastfeeding my little boy (he turned 5 months old today and is doing so well with another almost 1 kg gained in 6 weeks !) & am also sad that I have to take daily medication which will pass through my milk to him (but have been told it is safe to do so. Mmmmm ...)

Anyway, as my Mum said to me the other day, I should also post about the 'yucky' things in my life on my blog, and not only the happy things ... so there you go !
Oohhhh ... and my Inbox is overflowing (thanks everyone for emailing me when I miss a post to see what's up with me !) .... so will get around to that soon, too .... am also trying to meet up with 2 online friends whilst I am here, one of which is my dear friend and fellow blogger, Jo.
It's hard without my husband (the longest we've ever been apart in the 15 or so years we've been together) but not too hard as I am keeping busy and what makes it easier is that I am still quite cross with him (ha !) as I did not want him to take this 6 week consulting position in the first place (& he is living off fried frozen packet ham and mashed potato right now. Serves him right !) .... having my family together ... especially at such a crucial stage of our baby son's development (don't they grow quickly at this age ?) means more to me than the large amount of money in the bank being paid for this contract. Honestly. But anyway. There you go !
Okay, it's late and I am jabbering away now and really must stop as it's time for me to get to bed. But I'll be back soon. Promise !

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I'm sure things will improve after your body settles down after the pregnancy. Enjoy the rest of your time away!
So glad you are back and to know you and baby are well. Hope you have a good day.
Now that was a mouthful. I'm sure being away from home for an extended period of time is not the easiest thing to do. Sounds like your doctors are keeping good track of you. I don't know about taking that medication and breastfeeding...seems like the baby would be getting it. Hopefully you will be home soon and all things will return to normal.
Hello Lynda,
Please take care of yourself. Eats lots of oatmeal...lol I don't like being away from my hubby either..I get disoriented and I can't sleep. Looking forward for more of your fantastic recipes....hugs~

Sorry to hear that you have so much going on at the moment. The past two days have just totally gotten away from me. I did make your Fresh Lemon Muffins the other day for a bake sale and those went off well. I have heart disease in my family from my dad's side -- he had bypass when he was 45 years old and I will be 44 in February. I made a lifestyle change about 4-1/2 years ago, lost 30 lbs, and completely changed my eating. I should do a Women's Wellness checkup to see how all my parts are working at this point. :) It's great that you live a healthy lifestyle. So many people just think a pill will help them and they don't do anything about their eating habits or activity level. All the best to you as your work, craft and manage your way through the next 6 weeks without your husband. Time well spent certainly means more than money any day of the week. Blessings to you, :) Tammy
Thanks for giving us the good and bad.
I also have hereditary cholesterol and heart disease in the family. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is another factor which makes my cholesterol high. Not only low fat, but low G.I. helps. Lots of fibre, nuts etc. Psyllum husks (2T with water) helps lower cholesterol.
I'm glad to hear that piss & vinegar from you! It's good to vent sometimes. We've missed you from ALL your message boards, LOL.
Sorry to hear about the cholesterol, but keep up your healthy living. Take care of P. Also give my very best love to Jo!
Many hugs,
KIRSTY thanks for that :)
BECCA'S DIRT thank you .... not long to go now until I'm home again ...
LORI thanks for that ... yes will be lovely to be back home and in farm routines again !
BUNNY thanks for that :)
T'S DAILY TREASURES thanks for the feedback on the fresh lemon muffins - glad they went down well ! Thanks for sharing about your 'transformation' ... that is wonderful & you have given yourself the best gift ever :) I couldn't agree with the last sentence of your comment more - so true !
HILL UPON HILL thanks so much for the tips, sorry to hear about your cholesterol issues too. It's so annoying, isn't it ?!
DEDENE ... you are toooo funny with your expressions ! I'll be posting soon .... and will give Jo an extra hug from you if we do meet up. Am also hoping to meet up with Kecia so will hug her from you, too !
Lynda, you sound like a person who copes well. I know you miss your husband, but you're almost halfway through the time of his contract. You'll be together soon. I'll bet your daughter enjoys the time and attention she receives from her grandparents. As a grandparent I can tell you they love this extra "stolen" time with your children.
Good to hear from you..Your mom is right, of course; we all have yucky stuff in our life, too. Thanks for sharing it with us:) I have high cholesterol too, but it's pretty much my own fault at this point---something I need to work on along with high blood pressure:(
Take care!
Sometimes life is hard, even if we have so many beautiful "things" in it. Hopefully sometimes we can reach a point which allows us to look back and see that the past hard times have had their reason why....
I'm sorry for your health troubles: I' ve heard about effectiveness of soy lecithin, against cholesterol, and I wish you'll be able to find the right way to improve your well-being.
Lynda, I'm like you. I always try to post about happy things on my blog. Maybe we should start a blog and post only the "not so good" stuff in our life. I also have high cholesterol and I am a diabetic....have high blood pressure but under control. Not to mention the breast cancer and the carodid artery surgery. Heavens, I sound like I'm ready for a nursing home somewhere.... After all...here is my outlook! Life is not a journey with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaimimg, "WOW, WHAT A RIDE!" :-)
Hi Lynda
Good for you, telling us like it is for you right now!! Crikey I thought, how will I comment and keep to the point? So - Great to hear Justin & the farm are OK - chicken killing is risky business Emily, but you are after all a cat - it's discouraging when you've tried your best with your health problems Lynda and nothing changes for the best - BUT the point I think are those two little people in your family... and then you know you've done your best for them. And finally the consulting contract versus family, that seems to be A Venus & Mars 'thing' to me and besides it's nearly time for you to go home!!
Oh yes, lovely photo of the beach.
Ms Soup
Sorry that you have to take meds. again! But they wouldn't prescribe it if it was hazardous to your little boy!
Sorry haven't visited you for a while. Most of your year was taken up with having your second baby, mine was with buying and selling a house. Wished I could "deliver" the house, like I could do with babies!!Life throws its curves at us sometimes, isn't it!
Don't be too hard on your hubby - sooner or later he'll discover what you already know now - to spend more time with the family - but mostly they DO turn around:)
MARY thank you - & you're so right, my parents are loving the special 'extra' time with the grandchildren !
ROBIN thank you ! Sorry to hear about your cholesterol,too ... it's a bummer, isn't it ? !
FRANCESCA thanks for your tips & your kind words, too ! (P.S. is your blog still up as I cannot seem able to get on to it ?)
CLARA ... IN TN thanks for that & also for the fabulous quote !
ALPHABET SOUP thanks so much for all your comments ....LOL re the Mars & Venus thing ... men, 'eh ?!
JEANNETTE sounds like you've had a busy year, too - roll on 2010 ! Thanks for your kind words .............
