Here - finally ! - are some photo's of our recent weekend away in the bush. We stayed in a tented camp overlooking Lake Manyara. This was our tent (above). It is exactly like the tent my husband & I lived in for several years here when we were running similar safari camps in Tanzania. No, the lions can't get inside ! They view the tent as a solid object & in all my years of camp living, the only animals I knew to come up onto the wooden platform were monkey's and baboons - and perhaps the odd snake.
This, above, was the view from our tent veranda - this part of the country is extremely dry at the moment and they had some much needed rain whilst we were there. We could barely see any of the other tents from ours. Isn't it wild and wonderful ?
The camp had cement & stone pathways throughout. This above is the pathway leading down to the main bar and lounge area. You can just make out the hurricane lanterns on the side of the pathway - these are lit at night so that you can see where you're going.
This above, is the camp's main lounge and bar area & is typical of most safari camps here. (Don't you love the traditional grass mats on the polished red cement floor & the brightly coloured local cushion fabric ?!)
Isn't this beautiful ? The wooden deck extends from the bar/lounge out into the bush with sweeping views out over Lake Manyara. Lake Manyara is set inside the Lake Manyara National Park, which is known for it's phythons & tree climbing lions. We sat here each evening and had sundowners .... which were always served with a bowl of hot & freshly roasted Tanzanian peanuts ..... mmmmm !

I'll be doing some more posts over the coming days on different parts of our safari - including more camp scenes and views, a nearby lodge we visited, roadside scenes and traditional dancers/singers. I hope that you enjoy them and that it gives you a little taste of a typical Tanzanian Safari camp !
