Our Long Road Trip To The Tanzanian Coast ...

Our trip to the coast took around 8 hours. (Thank goodness for aircon as the heat was unbearable - especially as we got closer to the ocean !) Part of the road consists of endless sisal plantations, stretching as far as the eye can see with the Usambara mountain range framing them behind. Really pretty.

We always stop at the "Motel White Parrot" for a nice cool drink before hitting the final stretch of road - with it's cool polished slasto floors and thatched roof, it is a welcome reprive from the heat (although I avoid the long drop toilets at all costs !)

Of course what journey would be complete without at least one 'puncha' (puncture), hey ? Poor hubby had to change the tyre but afterwards rewarded himself with a nice cold beer !

Approaching the Pangani T-Junction which is peppered with hotel signboards - which way should we go ?

In the village of Pangani, we had to wait our turn for the ferry to take us and our car across the Pangani River. We also crossed with a large bus *gulp*. I took this photo through the closed gates as it is a government owned ferry & I'm not sure if we are allowed to take photo's of it for security reasons ? Well this is taken from a distance, so there's not much detail in the photo anyway.

The question is - did we make it across safely to the other side ? Or did we sink ? Perhaps we were swept out to sea and ended up on Zanzibar island ? Or maybe we had to bail out half way and swim to the other side ? Can you guess what happened ?

All will be revealed in Saturday's post ;)
