Out To Lunch ....

This past weekend we took my mother-in-law to one of our favourite restaurants for lunch (the entrance of the restaurant is pictured above). It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the farm, and well worth it. Nestled in a town that lies close to Mt Kilimanjaro's base & where most of the climbers stay, this restaurant is also a popular gathering point for people to enjoy a meal either before or after climbing Africa's highest peak !

We started with our 'usual' - a plate of Crispy Soy Chicken (above). It's not on the menu, but the Chef always makes it for us as a 'special' ..... garnished with sweet red onion. The best way to eat this - is with your hands !

Our main course consisted of steamed white rice, lentils in a buttery tomato gravy (bottom right) and Chicken Masala (top right) - all served on individual stands with candles burning underneath to keep them hot.

We also had chicken with cashew nut paste, black pepper and lemon juice (above) - delicious ! In the right corner of this photo you can see a local 'relish' made from fresh coconut flesh & green chilli's ..... fiery ! (Ooohhh .... not pictured is the delicious garlic naan bread we had, too !)

This was the view we had out over the restaurant gardens as we ate ..... we ended our meal off by stopping at a local shop to buy some ice cream cones to eat in the car as "dessert" on our way home ..... but I won't show you any photo's of that as they didn't last long enough for me to take a picture !

(The diet starts on Monday. Right ?!)
